Get to know Sharon Nisengard
Sharon Nisengard was born in Ann Arbor and was raised in Syracuse NY. She graduated from Williamsville North High School. She pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Arts in Sociology from SUNY Albany, and continued on to the University of Pennsylvania to become a Certified Nurse Midwife and OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner. She received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing Science.
While studying at UPenn, Sharon had the unique opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Israel, where she completed her Labor and Delivery and Pediatric Nursing rotations. Sharon practiced well-woman care and low-risk midwifery for 3 years in small community hospitals, both in Troy, NY and Lockport, NY. She joined Catholic Health in 2005.
Sharon serves on the board of the WNY chapter of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
The term midwife means “with woman”; to Sharon, this translates into listening, advocating, supporting, and caring for women, while being a source of comfort during some of their most vulnerable times.
